Butcher Assistant 

Treebird Market is looking for a driven and hard working Butcher Assistant to join our meat, seafood, and charcuterie team. Employees will be joining a small and collaborative team to help in the butcher room. The ideal person will have an interest in good food and want to learn about meat processing. This is an entry level position with opportunity for growth and entry level meat cutting. 

About Us: Treebird Market is a full service grocery store and butcher that operates in Hood River, Oregon. We are open 7 days a week, 8am-7pm. We partner with farmers, ranchers, and processors, to increase access to local, organic, and sustainably produced food. 

General Responsibilities: 

Butcher’s assistant will work bagging, sealing, and labeling cuts, ground and cased meats using safe handling methods. 

Tasks include: 

• Operating vacuum sealer, label maker and sausage stuffer 
• Transporting bins and baskets of meats to and from walk in and stocking 
• Washing and sanitizing equipment and dishes, surfaces and walls 
• Cleaning floors 
• Lifting and moving up to 50 lbs and awkward pieces of equipment 

Requirements: 

• Driven and hard working, with the ability to work quickly and efficiently 
• Willingness to jump in and help with whatever tasks need to be done 
• Ability to listen and ask questions when needed 
• Be able to focus on the task at hand 
• Must be able to follow directions, pay attention to details, and work safely 
• Current Oregon Food Handlers Card 

Schedule: Must be able to work Thursday-Saturday, with other shifts available, full or part time options. 

Compensation: Wages starting at $18-20+/hr depending on experience. Perks include free shift meals, sick time and 20% storewide discount. Wages will be based on experience with performance based raises available.
